    Here is a
    nice classic vintage lightly used Starrett 42-8 Hermaphrodite caliper.  This kind has the lock-joint with fine adjustment knob and the flat leg scriber style no longer made by Starrett.
    Good vintage pair with no engravings on them, just some usage marks and stain spots.  These hermaphrodite calipers have an adjustable point, locking joint and close adjustment feature for fine measurements.  After the legs have been set to approximate size and the joint locked, the final adjustment is made by a few turns of the knurled adjusting nut.  If these were the newer superseded type 42-8 with the round scribe they would run 4 today from Starrett.
